Trio 13"x 7" (FULL-DAY CLASS)
Learn to stitch with heavy decorative threads through the needle for embellishing and quilting, make prairie points with stitching and embellishments, accurately piece and apply skinny borders, and ditch quilt like a pro! ... while creating this precious little quilt.



If class is at a conference, classroom machines may be available. Please check with class organizer.

Fabric/thread requirements:
  • background fabric: fat quarter (18"x 22") enough for backing and binding also, binding is not covered in class
  • prairie point fabrics: three scraps at least 9"x 18"... PLEASE NOTE that hand-dyed, solid or tone-on-tone fabrics will show off stitching better! www.CherrywoodFabrics.com is a fabulous source for hand-dyed fabrics.
  • 50 or 60wt (regular weight) cotton thread for piecing and bobbin in color to coordinate with background fabric and colors to coordinate with prairie point fabrics
  • thin thread for ditch quilting in a color to coordinate with background fabric: WonderFil Invisafil, YLI #100 silk, Superior Threads #100 Tire silk, Superior Threads Bottom Line (optional, some colors available for purchase in class)
  • 12wt cotton decorative thread for embellishing prairie points (available for purchase in class)
  • beads for embellishing prairie points (optional) Sample shows 1cm felted wool beads from www.handbehg.com and size 11 glass beads.
  • thin 100% cotton or 100% wool batting: 15"x 9"
Homework (so more progress is made in class):
  • Starch and press all fabrics

Supplies/tools:
  • Trio pattern or Precision & Panache book, available in class
  • Sewing machine, fresh needle, bobbin, zig-zag throat plate, bed extension (if you have one), sewing machine manual. A machine with adjustable needle positions is desirable.
  • Slotted needle plate for your machine (not single hole)
  • Walking (or even-feed) foot if you have one
  • Open-toe foot if you have one
  • hand sewing needle for embellishing (sharps or betweens)
  • Rotary cutting equipment (cutter, mat, ruler...at least 14")
  • Small scissors or thread trimmers
  • Pins
  • Fabric glue (liquid or stick)
  • Seam ripper, stiletto (optional)
  • Prairie Pointer tool (optional, available in class)
  • Pencil for note taking
  • Bag for scraps/threads
  • extension cord
Irons and ironing boards will be needed, though not every student needs his/her own.
