29"x29" (9 blocks) OR 63"x49"
(48 blocks), 6" blocks
Accent curves with piping! This technique
is wonderful for traditional curved patterns
and great for contemporary designs. In class,
students will learn to make perfect piping
and add that piping to curves such as Susan's
macaroni block or traditional drunkard’s
path blocks. Piping adds pizzazz! Quilting
and finishing will be discussed. (additional $8 pattern fee per student OR $25 Piping Hot Curves book)
(Pattern is to be used in conjuction with
class information and is not a stand-alone
pattern. Piping Hot Curves book contains
every detail taught in class plus 5 projects.
Pattern is not available in shops. When this
class is offered in a shop, each student
needs the Piping Hot Curves book)

Susan will have the pattern, cording, some
YLI #100 silk thread, and the Clover ball-point
awl available for purchase in class.
Fabric choices:
I used one solid (black) fabric, many black/white
prints, and six piping/corner stone fabrics.
The bright piping between black and black/white
prints gave the definition and contrast I
wanted to see.
Please keep in mind that high contrast is needed for piping fabric so it will pop!
Prints may hide piping, so consider
stripes,
solids, batiks, or tone-on-tone fabrics.
A macaroni on a same-value background
will
work with piping between them, so traditional
fabric decision-making is not applicable
in this project. Simply make sure piping
fabric is in contrast with other fabrics
in the quilt!
Class organizer please note really HOT irons
are essential!

- Fabric requirements are based on fabric 40”-44”
wide.

slightly contrasting piping
- 50 or 60 wt cotton thread coordinating with
piping fabrics

came with your machine but some quilters
change it to a single hole needle plate.

one

onto freezer paper
- Iron, pressing surface (usually provided,
