Octet 13"x 7" (HALF-DAY CLASS)
Learn to stitch with heavy decorative threads
through the needle for embellishing and quilting,
make 2-color prairie points with stitching
and embellishments, and use a foundation
for quick, accurate piecing! ... while creating
this precious little quilt.

If class is at a conference, classroom machines
may be available. Please check with class
organizer.
Fabric/thread requirements:
- background & outer border fabric: fat
quarter (zebra in sample, extra needed for binding, not included in
class)
- foundation: 5.5"x 12.5" starched,
light-colored fabric
- prairie point main fabrics: eight scraps
at least 4" square plus extra to practice
stitching ... PLEASE NOTE that hand-dyed,
solid or tone-on-tone fabrics will show off
stitching better! www.CherrywoodFabrics.com is a fabulous source for hand-dyed fabrics.
- prairie point lining fabrics in center of
prairie points: at least 3"x 30"
piece plus extra to practice stitching (dark
brown in sample)
- inner border (dark brown in sample): at least
6"x 13" piece
- outer border: included in background yardage
- 50 or 60wt (regular weight) cotton thread
for piecing and bobbin in color to coordinate with background fabric
and colors to coordinate with prairie point
lining fabric
- 12wt cotton decorative thread for embellishing
prairie points (available for purchase
in
class)
- beads for embellishing prairie points (optional)
Homework (only about 30 minutes ... so more
progress is made in class):
- Starch and press all fabrics (foundation, background, prairie point main,
prairie point lining)
- Prairie point lining fabric (dark brown in
sample): cut 2.25" x at least 32" strip
- Prairie point MAIN fabrics (orange-blue in
sample): cut (8) 1.75"x 3.5" pieces OR (1)
1.75"x 32" strip of one fabric
- Background fabric (zebra in sample): cut
5.5"x at least 20" piece, then
cut into (7) 1.75"x 5.5" pieces,
(1) 2.75"x 5.5" piece, and (1)
1.5"x 5.5" piece
Supplies/tools:
- Octet pattern or Precision & Panache
book, available in class
- Sewing machine, fresh needle, bobbin, zig-zag
throat plate, bed extension (if you have
one), sewing machine manual. A machine with
adjustable needle positions is desirable.
- Slotted needle plate for your machine (not
single hole)
- Walking (or even-feed) foot if you have one
- Open-toe foot if you have one
- hand sewing needle for embellishing (sharps
or betweens)
- Rotary cutting equipment (cutter, mat, ruler...at
least 14")
- Small scissors or thread trimmers
- Pins
- Fabric glue (liquid or stick)
- Seam ripper, stiletto (optional)
- Prairie Pointer tool (optional, available
in class)
- Fabric marker, permanent marker, or pencil
to show on foundation fabric
- Pencil for note taking
- Bag for scraps/threads
