Piped bindings add spark and a professional finish to any style piece. Every detail of binding and tiny, perfect piping will be covered in class with step-by-step demos and printed instructions. Machine differences will be addressed so students will be successful with their own machines. Students work on their practice piece to achieve making perfect piping, preparing the quilt, applying binding, mitering corners, joining tails, and finishing for a show-quality back. Variations will be on display and discussed. Many major award-winners are using this technique to achieve stunning results!

Simple, smooth, plump binding is a great finale for any quilt. In this class we’ll cover everything needed to get a nice binding on your quilts! Topics include: preparing the quilt, mitering corners to perfection, joining tails (my special technique), adding a sleeve, and finishing the back. We’ll also discuss curvy edges and other variations.

Decorative big threads stitched by machine can add interest and pizazz to quilting. The focus in class is using decorative big threads through the needle, in the bobbin, and couched. Skills learned can then be used on stabilized fabric or quilt sandwiches to take advantage of many beautiful threads. Students may opt to make bookmarks with their decorated strips. (Please note that machines without removable bobbin cases have limited success with some bobbin threads.)
Thread kits may be purchased in class.

Bold Needle Threads (great 1/2 day class)
Impact with big decorative threads stitched through the needle can be easily achieved! Learn how to adjust your machine, choose needles, and select stitch patterns to get stunning results with these threads. In class we’ll stitch thread embellished bookmarks to learn about threads machines. After class you’ll have the ability to decorate fabric and quilt quilts with a new array of beautiful threads. Kits of fabric, stabilizer, fusible and threads may be purchased in class for $18.

Add piping to curves and avoid curved piecing! This technique is wonderful for traditional curved patterns and great for contemporary designs. In class, students will learn to make perfect piping and add that piping to the lively, curvy macaroni block. Piping adds pizzazz! Red piping accents curve!

In class, students will learn to make perfect piping and add that piping to the elegant lanterns block. Piping adds pizzazz! In class, students will learn to make perfect piping and add that piping to the "eye of the piper" block. Fabric choices determine the mood of this piece. It can be elegant or crazy as shown in Susan's Piping Hot Curves book. Piping adds pizzazz! Piecing with odd shapes will be learned in this class as well as how to make perfect piping and add it into applique as shown in the circle between the star layers.
Please note that a bit of homework is necessary. Homework sheets are not currently available from the internet and must be obtained from the class organizer.

Increasing accuracy during every step of the quiltmaking process is the goal in this class. This small piece (20" x 16") will be constructed while the basics of precision quilting will be covered. The basics are many times forgotten but they are oh, so important. Experienced quilters will pick up a tip or two to increase their accuracy as well.

Showcase a fabulous feature fabric in this variation of attic windows! Susan’s mitering technique and built-in sashing will make the block much easier than traditional piecing, will produce beautiful results, and will take any fear out of mitered corners. This technique may then be applied to any project involving mitered corners or borders. Quilting and finishing will be discussed.
