Prairie Point Pillow or quilt
Learn to use heavy decorative thread through the needle to embellish prairie points, then make perfect prairie points, and use a variation of foundation piecing to accurately piece many prairie points into a 14" pillow or very small quilt. Piping and ric-rac finishing techniques will then be demonstrated for a fabulous finish!

Piped bindings add spark and a professional finish to any style piece. Every detail of binding and tiny, perfect piping will be covered in class with step-by-step demos and printed instructions. Machine differences will be addressed so students will be successful with their own machines. Students work on their practice piece to achieve making perfect piping, preparing the quilt, applying binding, mitering corners, joining tails, and finishing for a show-quality back. Variations will be on display and discussed. Many major award-winners are using this technique to achieve stunning results!

Simple, smooth, plump binding is a great finale for any quilt. In this class we’ll cover everything needed to get a nice binding on your quilts! Topics include: preparing the quilt, mitering corners to perfection, joining tails (my special technique), adding a sleeve, and finishing the back. We’ll also discuss curvy edges and other variations.

Decorative big threads stitched by machine can add interest and pizazz to quilting. The focus in class is using decorative big threads through the needle, in the bobbin, and couched. Skills learned can then be used on stabilized fabric or quilt sandwiches to take advantage of many beautiful threads. At home students may opt to make bookmarks with their decorated strips. (Please note that machines without removable bobbin cases have limited success with some bobbin threads.)
Thread kits may be purchased in class.

Bold Needle Threads (great 1/2 day class)
Impact with big decorative threads stitched through the needle can be easily achieved! Learn how to adjust your machine, choose needles, and select stitch patterns to get stunning results with these threads. After class you’ll have the ability to decorate fabric and quilt quilts with a new array of beautiful threads. At home students may create bookmarks with their decorated strips. Kits of fabric, stabilizer, fusible and threads may be purchased in class for $18.

Why fear the Y-seam? Choose a wonderful print to "frame" and learn a marvelous technique for mitering sashing and borders while making a few blocks in class. Your fabric will be cut to showcase it's motif and frame size will be your choice. You may also decide how many different frame fabrics to use. Individual help will be given to everyone who would like the advice. Accuracy will be taught and emphasized. Several variations will be discussed so you'll have skills to design your own frames, sashing and borders with perfect miters!
