Finish your quilts and wearables with the flair they deserve by adding piping in the binding! It adds a spark and a professional finish to any style piece. A practice piece is worked on in class to master making perfect piping, mitering corners, joining binding tails and finishing the back. Lots of variations will be on display and discussed. Learn my no-lump, no-fail, tail-joining technique!

Plain and Perfect Binding
Simple, smooth, plump binding is a great finale for any quilt. In this class we’ll cover everything needed to get a nice binding on your quilts! Topics include: preparing the quilt, cutting binding, mitering corners, joining tails (my special technique), adding a sleeve, and finishing the back. We’ll also discuss curvy edges and other variations.

Decorative big threads stitched by machine can add interest and pizazz to quilting. The focus in class is using decorative big threads through the needle, in the bobbin, and couched to make bookmarks for your favorite friends or quilting books. Skills learned can then be used on quilts to take advantage of many beautiful threads. (Please note that machines without removable bobbin cases have limited success with bobbin threads.)
Thread kits may be pre-ordered for purchase in class.

Piecing with odd shapes will be learned in thie class as well as how to make perfect piping and add it into applique as shown in the circle between the star layers.
Please note that a bit of homework is necessary. Homework sheets are not currently available from the internet and must be obtained from the class organizer.

This small piece (20" x 16") will be constructed while the basics of precision quilting will be covered. The basics are many times forgotten but they are oh, so important. More experienced quilters may pick up a tip or two to increase their accuracy as well.

Use one fabulous feature fabric and 4 supporting fabrics to accomplish this 3-D illusion and learn a great way to accomplish mitered seams! 27” X 22”, 33” X 39” or 53” X 74” Quilting and finishing will be discussed.

Show some patriotism with this colorful flag quilt. Fifty prairie points are pieced into the flag which is surrounded by piping and a border. Special techniques include embellishing/making prairie points, piecing with prairie points, making piping, and piecing with piping. (Instructions include quilting designs.) 32” X 21”

Add several options to your quilting by learning to quilt with pearl cotton. We’ll explore three options on a sample piece: by hand, in the bobbin, and couched. The results will be exciting! (Quality of bobbin quilting varies between machine brands.)

We'll cover accurate piecing, pinning, and pressing techniques as this striking wall quilt is made. Triangle papers will be used to accomplish accurate half-square triangles. Also discussed will be making prairie points and mitering multiple borders
